Former Athenian killed by train near Carl station
William P Chandler, formerly of Athens and longtime resident of Winder in the grocery supply business, was killed by northbound Seaboard vestibule train No 6 near Carl station. He had been living in Carl, Ga, for some time. The body was taken to Winder for funeral arrangements. The engineer said Chandler appeared to be on the track and rose when the warning signal blew, then stepped in front of the approaching train. He had been in poor health recently and may have been resting while walking along the railroad. He was well known locally and had relatives in the area.
