Escaped convict returned to Morgan County for sentence
Yesterday afternoon Newt Lackey a colored convict known as Will Hill was sent back to Morgan county to complete his six month sentence for running a blind tiger. He had recently tried to break free by whetting his shackles and was recaptured with help from George McDorman Jr. It was found he had previously escaped Morgan county gang after serving three months of a five year term for assault with intent to murder.

Miss Evie Brightwell widow of J W Brightwell and sister of Minnie Brightwell died from pellagra at 2 PM yesterday at her home 24 Washington street. Funeral at Stephens at 5 PM today with 4:15 PM Georgia train carrying remains. Pallbearers named and notices for meeting at 3:30 PM. She leaves three sisters and two brothers, was about 45, long resident of Athens, honored as a Christian woman.
