Christmas Tree for the Soldiers at Red Cross Canteen
The Red Cross Canteen celebrated Christmas Eve for soldiers on passing trains with a decorated Christmas tree on a baggage truck. Volunteers handed out stockings filled with oranges nuts mints candles fruit cake and cigarettes while serving hot coffee and pound cake. Northbound troops from Ft Sam Houston and southbound troops heading to demobilization camps appreciated the gesture and the committee prepared for today’s arrivals.
