J L Westbrooks of Carrollton Ga was shot and fatally wounded in a crowd near Barnett Shoals after a card game. Reports say the party was drinking and a quarrel sparked the shooting by a man named Maxey from Maxey Ga. An Athens physician treated him Sunday afternoon. the wound is reported through one lung and very serious.

Death of J. B. Toomer in Athens is noted
J B Toomer died yesterday morning from paralysis after years of poor health. A Charleston native, he built a substantial Athens business and left property. Survived by his wife, an adopted daughter Ruth, and sister Miss M B Toomer of McClain ville. Funeral at 2 30 this afternoon from 564 College Avenue with Rev E L Hill. Remains to be shipped to Charleston for burial, leaving at four this afternoon by Georgia Railroad.
