Negro indicted for murder of Dunaway in Clarke County

Patman also charged with assault with intent to murder Will Finch and with assaulting Policeman John Short. Grand jury of 23 men convened by Judge Brand found true bills and heard a brief charge. Patman claimed amnesia after arrest. his father hired Col. Woolver Smith as counsel, with Solicitor General Cliff Walker and Col. John B. Gamble aiding the state.

Fund for Mrs Dunaway Growing Through Community Help

Athens citizens have donated generously to support widow and ten children of the late Valentine Dunaway. In two days the fund reached $493.75 with pledges continuing, aiming to secure a cottage home and a year of income as a Christmas gesture honoring the husband’s service. Local groups and individuals contributed through the Banner as notices list donors and amounts.

Butterflies Presented at State Normal by Local Society

The Mildred Rutherford Society will present the play Butterflies at the Normal School Auditorium next Tuesday at eight. Barber F. J. Kenyon Dies After Illness

F J Kenyon died yesterday at his River Street residence after a battle with pneumonia. A 45 year old barber, he operated his own shop on Thomas Street and had moved from Philadelphia years ago. He leaves a wife and young daughter. Funeral arrangements were incomplete for Sunday. Friends here mourn his loss.

Election of bailiffs takes place today in Clarke county

This morning at 7 sun time the election of two legal constables for the 216th district will begin with two candidates. Wood and Cook are favored to win easily. Elections occur in all Clarke county districts and in other counties. Miss Elizabeth Swift of Elberton is visiting Miss Lydia Hutchins.
