About 100 members of the Georgia Farmers Union gathered in the state capitol senate chamber. President R O P Duckworth warned members to stay out of politics amid reorganization and possible threats to the union’s future. Jury Commissioners Meet to Revise Chirke County Box

The Chirke county jury commissioners met in court yesterday morning to begin revising the jury box for the year. Judge Brand appointed C A Talmadge after Mr M Stern declined further service. The board planned to push the work quickly with the committee meeting again today. Some tax exemptions were hinted at, and next year’s list may be reduced.

Revenue officers escape after still raid ambush

Atlanta August 27 special report says Revenue Agent R Vo Sanis and companion returned from North Carolina after destroying a still. On the retreat they were ambushed by moonshiners, their horse struck five times before they fled into darkness. The incident will be reviewed by the department of justice for prosecution.

Railroad commission debate on delaying passenger fare cut in Georgia

In Atlanta on August 27 the railroad commission heard from major Georgia rail lines about delaying the planned passenger fare reductions set to begin September 2. No agreement was reached as officials sparred over extension and postponement while the session remained open to the public.

New Bale Cotton Brings 20 Cents in Athens Market

Yesterday morning at the warehouse of Hardeman and Phyzy the new cotton bale arrived from P W Bearden of Madison and raised by a Morgan county farmer. Bidding topped at twenty cents by TM Tugers of Inman Akers and Inman. This marks the highest price since wartime days and excites the local cotton district.
