County Farm Agent Joe Woodruff will resign after two to three years of service in Clarke and Oconee counties to become district agent based in Walton county. The county board praised his service, Clarke plans to hire a full time agent, and T. B. Burns, a State College of Agriculture graduate, will be chosen for Clarke.
Washington reports the president set fixed coal prices for every U S mine after a trade commission study. The country is split into 29 districts with uniform prices. a coal administrator will be named, possibly H A Garfield of Williams College. Run of the mine coal averages about 21 dollars per ton, with price flexibility under reconsideration as fuel administration plans take shape.
In Washington on August 21 Senator Smith of South Carolina denied rumors of American cotton reaching Germany and Austria. He warned that four million bales less are being exported to Europe since the war began and that consumption exceeds production, exhausting past-year surpluses and signaling a global cotton shortage. Also advertised are fresh produce items from Arnold & Abney, including corn 25¢ per dot, celery, lettuce, okra 10¢.
Delegates at a marine trades council meeting in New York voted to instruct the council to call a general strike in all New York shipyards. The action, aimed at securing a $4.50 per day wage, comes as a broad escalation by shipyard workers.

Neighbors alerted by the crime. Allen reportedly warned not to tell. Local posse tracked him down and brought him to the sheriff. Washington Aug 21 A nation wide food survey will be started immediately by the department of agriculture under new food laws. The census covers about a hundred food items with a quick survey of eighteen principal articles first. All information will be turned over to the food administrator.
