The Georgia Development Company of Athens announces a 60 acre Scott tract to be subdivided into 302 lots with curved streets and parks. Grading, water and sewer lines, and granolithic sidewalks proceed as 14 hundred feet of Lumpkin street sidewalk is installed. Jefferson Ga August 12 The second week of Jackson Superior Court opened with Judge Charles H Brand presiding and Solicitor General John B Gamble handling the States interests The opening docket included Oliver Dickson charged with criminal assault resulting in acquittal for all parties The trial saw strong white support in a racially charged case The state via Gamble and Ray Ray faced defense by A C Brown and J A B Mahaffey The docket continued with W T Martin charged with murder also acquitted in self defense The Heard murder case then underway with Gamble and Shackelford representing the state and Mahaffeys defending The court drew crowds despite hot weather and will hear additional murder cases this week

Mr. and Mrs. W S Callaway returned to Hill Street after visiting Mrs Callaway’s parents in Wilkes County. Their four year old son fell ill with pneumonia and physicians feared for his life. He later recovered after six weeks of illness and was brought home in improving condition.

University Transfers Property From Georgia to Thomasville
The University of Georgia deeded to Thomasville the former South Georgia College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts property. Representative H W Hopkins will deliver the deeds to city officials after the legislature adjourns. The transfer follows a 1 August resolution directing conveyance to the city. Georgia House Passes Tax Equalization Measure by Narrow Margin
The Anderson Miller substitute to the Lipscomb tax equalization plan passed 86 to 85 after a dramatic tie where Speaker Burwell cast the deciding vote. The bill creates county boards of assessors, sets terms, authorizes a 10 percent commission for locating unreturned property, and establishes a state tax commissioner with a six year term at 2500 dollars.
