Col William Henry Morton of Puryear district died at home last night after a paralytic illness. He leaves children James White Morton, Mrs. Parks Carlton, Robert F. Morton, Powell Morton, Will Henry Morton Jr., Toombs Morton, and wife Mrs Morton. Born in Clarke County, he was a farmer, businessman and church member with a long public-spirited record. Funeral plans to be announced tomorrow morning.
Mrs. H C Carter died about two hours after a sudden indigestion attack at the home of her son, A B Carter, 172 Grady Avenue. Survived by three sons A B Carter H T Carter and W L Carter. Born in Randolph County North Carolina she had lived in Athens since her eldest son moved to Georgia. Funeral arrangements pending arrival of sons.
Occasional showers expected across Atlanta and vicinity and the entire state on Saturday. Local showers continue in scattered cotton belt stations with heavier activity at Atlanta and Augusta. The northern storm has shifted toward the St Lawrence district.
The eighth annual term of the University of Georgia summer school closes after a lengthy examination period covering all who sought teaching licenses in state and high schools. About two hundred were directly involved, with attendance this year far above 1913 and expected to exceed a thousand in 1914 as teachers recognize the program’s value for licensing exams.
After a governor meeting, the Senate Appropriations Committee cut 280325 from the house general appropriation bill. The 7 percent reduction affects pension service, public schools, Tech, Normal schools, the University, extension programs, and the Medical College, with the house now needing to raise revenue if further increases are to be enacted.
