In Washington on April 25 the Mexican crisis dominates Congress. The president and cabinet weigh reprisals against Huerta while Senate and House debate war, tempered by acceptance of a Mexican campaign and a possible peace via American arms and a new war government.
Antwerp April 25. Seven hundred tons of ammunition for Huerta await storage here as steamers bound for Mexican ports refuse to carry the contraband, signaling a halt to shipments amid ongoing hostilities.
A special train carries refugees into Vera Cruz from Mexico City as reports say American property suffered further destruction. The refugees say no Americans were killed up to departure time.
The first instalment of the city taxes, one third of the yearly total, was due on the fifteenth of this month. Payment time ends May first, after which fines will be assessed on the full amount. Nonpayment of any instalment makes the entire year’s tax due.
A historical re-creation titled The Battle of Waterloo will be shown at the Elite tomorrow Monday April 27. The event promises a meticulously accurate battle scene with eight thousand men five hundred cannons and six thousand horses. Admission is 5 and 10.
American Consul in Vera Cruz reports Americans detained in Mexico City over a dispute about Mexicans blocked from leaving Vera Cruz. British envoys moved to correct the impression as unconfirmed reports claim four Americans killed. Admiral Badger extends bluejackets and Marines beyond Vera Cruz while South Carolina Marines dig in west of the city. President signs volunteer forces in time of war bill enabling state militias to be federalized.
Athens hosts an Equal Suffrage Rally at City Hall on May 2 with a debate featuring Judge John J Strickland and Prof. John Morris. The Clarke County Equal Suffrage League reports 85 members, about a third of them men, as Georgia moves toward universal suffrage.
Atlanta April 25 The banquet for the Atlanta Law School was disrupted when a fellow student revealed that senior Ernest G. Bentley had secretly wed today at 1 PM in the courthouse office. Bride Esther Hitchock daughter of Dr W O Hitchock of Dallas Ga and sister of Georgia University ball pitcher attends the Atlanta Conservatory of Music and graduates in June. Bentley also graduates in June and serves as assistant to Solicitor General Hugh Dasey during his studies.
Atlanta report from April 25 describes a blaze at the Black Building at 50 to 58 Marietta street causing about 15000 in damage. Forty firemen were overcome by smoke or flames with many sent to hospitals or back to stations. several were injured or fainted during the effort.
Athens tax officials warn hundreds have not filed personal property returns before May first under new rules. Noncompliance risks double taxes. A separate note recounts a theft case where a purse containing about $90 was stolen from a woman who then stayed with friends before heading to Winder to be with her brother.
President Wilson announced that Brazil Argentina and Chile offered to mediate the Mexican conflict. The United States would welcome discussion on terms of a permanent settlement and hopes sober elements of the American people will participate. Diplomats said no further action will occur until replies are received.
New Orleans dispatches report General Maas, commander of the Mexican Federal army near Vera Cruz, claims Americans are guilty of charges. He says they will be executed, though the specific charges and prisoner identities were not disclosed in the wireless report.
About 3500 American refugees are expected in Galveston by tomorrow night, many from Vera Cruz and most from Tampico. The battleship Connecticut will bring women and children from Tampico. The American collier Cyclops arrived with 316 men, and the steamer Trinidadian carried more refugees.
Galveston Texas April 25 The situation at Tampico remained serious according to wireless dispatches. Two torpedo boats reportedly went up the Panuco River to rescue Americans. Refugees arriving from Tampico said German sailors saved them from rioting Mexicans on Wednesday.

He notes Fletcher’s efforts to unite census and municipal affairs. a possession committee may form to guide legal order. A meeting is planned. lines extended two miles. no clashes with Mexican forces. Mississippi marines landed. another landing expected. ship’s band to perform.
Atlanta April 25. Mrs Estelle Law Savannah wife of Robert Law entered Grady Hospital during graduation exercises and reclaimed her three year old twins previously removed to the Georgia Children's Home Society. The children fallen ill with measles were sent to the hospital, where the mother seized them. She was arrested at the Kimballville farm and taken to the Tower amid expected legal action.
The Elberton Star reports Col Thomas M Swift of Elberton may run for senator from the district in the upcoming August primary. He is praised for farming ties and aid to corn clubs, having provided fertilizer to students in 1911 and 1912 13, and his previous service in the house and senate is cited as a credential. Swift's supporters in the district would back his candidacy if he enters the race.
The Fiddlers Convention at Mons Au concluded with Joe Wages of Athens taking first place, A V Pool the one arm fiddler from Oxford second, and Wiley Shorty Harper of Morgan County third. Judges were Professor Bond Vaughan and Judge Thomas. A Madison County Confederate veteran in gray performed a notable dancing display with a walking stick. Pledger's Boy Band, the youngest member four, performed several excellent tunes.

Prof. J. C. Wardlaw, leader of the journey in Athens, has been elected head of the Georgia Educational Association. The appointment is described as a high honor by many Athens friends who celebrated the news last night.
The State Normal School releases its annual bulletin from the printers. It is praised as the most attractive catalog the state has issued with striking illustrations and a convenient, well arranged binding.
The body of Mr. W. E. Pope who died earlier this week at Pope Mississippi arrived in Athens last night after a delay. The casket was taken to Dorsey chapel and services will be held at the grave in Oconee cemetery this morning, with the funeral party leaving Clayton street chapel at 9 o'clock.
