A catalog style page lists the Soldiers Aid Society, Ladies Memorial Association, and United Daughters of the Confederacy in Athens GA with officers, directors, and regional chapters. It includes histories, sketches of Howell Cobb and Gen. Cobb, notes on Reconstruction, and a long memorial poem by Sadie S. Palmer plus a list of descendants receiving Cross of Honor and memorial flower tributes.
The notice describes a College Chapel program held Friday April 26 1912 at 3 PM with performances by Quartette introduction of an orator and a line of march by Herschel Carith, delivery of a Southern Cross of Honor and a benediction. Speakers Rev J W Lynch and Messrs Mell and Thomas H Dozier listed along with Jpee Ashby Jones Augusta GA and M W Welch serving as president and adjutant.
A marching line on Broad Street toward the University campus includes the Grand Marshal staff band National Guard Clarke Rifles Veterans in automobiles and a mounted escort of Daughters and Sons of Veterans Dr Ashby Jones as orator and escort Sons of the Confederacy students from State Normal School Lucy Cobb Institute City Schools and citizens in cars. The procession proceeds to Cemetery Street then Oconee Cemetery with rifles at the Confederate monument band near meat facing north. A military salute taps and dismissal follow.
The roll lists Cobb-Delaney Camp UCV officers chosen recently with J. E. Talmadge Sr. as Commander and J. S. McKie as First Lieutenant, all based in Athens Georgia, plus numerous members from Athens and nearby counties. Veterans receiving the Southern Cross of Honor are noted with names and units.
A poem on the worn Confederate battle flag and its symbolic steadfastness, followed by a Memorial Day recitation praising heroes who defended the South. The piece ends with a tribute to David C. Dodd, a Southern boy-hero memorialized as a martyr.
A list of the first 300 veterans selected for Crosses of Honor includes numerous named individuals from Georgia units such as the 34th, 37th, 16th, and 8th regiments, Adams Battalion, Cobb's Brigade, Wright's Brigade, and other Georgia commands. The page notes corps, brigades, and battalions with multiple company-level details and continues on Page Four.
