J A Pitner, longtime county treasurer and city council member, declined to run after a petition signed by over four hundred voters and a strong citizen delegation urged him to enter the race. He cited current office duties and business reasons but thanked supporters for their loyalty.
An additional candidate appears for county officer posts as E K Greer makes a formal announcement in this issue of the Banner. He cites broad support from hundreds of friends and pledges a strong following in both city and county.
The Young Harris revival services will continue through Sunday despite plans to close. Pastor Rev. R. M. Dixon announced the meeting will be extended with daily sessions at 10 to 11 in the morning and 8 in the evening. The revival has drawn growing interest and substantial, lasting impact.

Three nights of old time fiddling contest scheduled for April 23 to 25 at Moss Auditorium. Notables include Poole, Gid Tanner, Little Wylee Harper, Fid din John Carson with his houn' dog, Bob Stanley from Dacula, John Moore and more. Prizes offered, entry free via Moss & Co. office.
Athens will soon have another building and loan association named the Athens Building, Loan & Improvement Co. A charter has been granted and permanent organization is expected within days. E. I. Smith Sr. will serve as secretary and treasurer, with stock subscriptions already underway and officers to be elected once finalized.
Former Gov. Joe Brown authorizes a statement through Col. F. J. Paxon declaring support for Gov. Slaton in the U S Senate race. Paxon says Brown laughed at reports of a rupture and stresses there was never any dispute or discussion about Slaton running.
Atlanta April 15 Leo M Frank's counsel prepared to file an extraordinary new trial motion to stay Friday's hanging for the murder of factory employee Mary Phagan. The motion attacks state methods, cites newly discovered evidence, and challenges witness testimony. Detective Burns' report, not yet public, may be added as an amendment.
Fresh Jersey butter and country eggs listed among other goods including beans tomatoes shallots corn and okra. A batch of Georgia yam potatoes Irish potatoes cream cheese red onions and water ground meal is offered with a note of nine o’clock delivery by calling 1176.

Athens is widely represented at nine state conventions this week. W O W session in Gainesville with Judge West as presiding officer and M Jankower and J H Griffeth as delegates. Athens Presbyter y at Nacoochee includes two secretaries stated and permanent clerks from the city, plus delegates from Athens. Sunday schools from Clarke County attend the Georgia Sunday School Association in Milledgeville. High School at Milledgeville sends about a dozen delegates led by Superintendent Bond. Grace Church in Gainesville hosts the Athens convocation with Rev J M Merling Jones and Rev Troy Beatty present. Georgia State Federation of Labor holds sessions in Macon with J H Williams as Athens delegate. Presbyterial at Commerce next week will include Mrs C A Scudder, Mrs Pittard, and Mrs George D Thomas. Clarke County Medical Society delegates attend the Georgia Medical Association in Atlanta. Health officers meet in Atlanta with Athens officials J P Proctor and Dr W W Brown among delegates. County officials and university engineers also attend the meeting in Atlanta.
The Associated Press reports Tennessee Republicans nominated B. W. Hooper for governor at a state convention. They passed a resolution favoring statewide prohibition and opposed sale and manufacture of intoxicating beverages. The event occurred in Nashville on April 15.
Oscar Straus secretary of commerce and labor told the Senate canal committee that Panama tolls exemption should be repealed. He warned against sacrificing national self respect for a miserable mess of pottage and said Roosevelt favored arbitration to settle the issue though exemption did not violate the Hay Pauncefote treaty.
Oklahoma troops under Adjutant General Canton seized the Tulsa fairgrounds under martial law proclaimed by Governor Cruce and fired over the horses. If another race began they would shoot the horses, prompting temporary withdrawal of spring races by Tulsa Jockey Club officials. Three arrests were made and habeas corpus actions filed. Governor Cruce pledged to maintain martial law at the Tulsa track as long as racing continues to be used for gambling.
The Athens Retail Merchants Protective Association will hold its regular meeting this evening at 8 30 in room 616 of the Holman building. Secretary Jackson keeps the office there. All members are urged to attend.

Washington April 15 prohibition supporters pressed the House judiciary committee to back a constitutional amendment for nationwide prohibition. They urged reporting Hobson of Alabama’s resolution to submit to states for ratification prohibiting the sale or manufacture of all alcoholic beverages. Prohibitionists plan to address the Senate judiciary subcommittee tomorrow.
Trade Day excursion draws shoppers from Elberton and surrounding areas. Merchants report total sales of 91.70 with 5.70 refunded on the books by secretary Clare D. Heidler.
The Lee Aforris clothing shop will be enlarged. The Pearce restaurant, now run by Huff and Co. on Jackson Street, will be absorbed into the clothing store, while the restaurant moves to Thomas Street. The former restaurant space will be redesigned in modern style.
Earl Dresser, stated eleventh hour witness for the four gunmen electrocuted on Monday, was arrested after confessing perjury on a signed District Attorney Whitman statement. He admitted lying about witnessing the murder of Herman Rosenthal and other falsehoods.
