A jury in superior court returned a verdict for the defendant in the Isham Floyd case against Seaboard Air Line Railway. Floyd, a University of Georgia rehabilitation student and World War II veteran, sought 82000 after alleging misrouted travel and humiliation. The trial began early Thursday morning and concluded late afternoon. West and West represented Floyd. Erwin, Erwin and Nix defended Seaboard.
The Dublin peace conference adjourned late Friday afternoon until Wednesday next without agreement. It is reported all parties urged that public meetings proceed without interference.
One and a half tons of TNT exploded Thursday near Helper Utah during blasting, hurling rock over the town and heavily damaging the business district. No fatalities were reported.
The State Normal school's senior class won the city Thursday in the third field meet of the term, totaling 71-2 points to lead the Juniors 7, Sophomores 2, and Freshmen 11-2. A brief police court session disposed of several cases. Albert Gage of Athens was fined 10.75 for being drunk and disorderly and held over 20 days on a separate charge. Dred Young, said to live in Toccoa, paid 10.75 for drunk and disorderly behavior. John Martin of Athens forfeited a 10.75 bond after public indecency charges were filed.
E-8 Sporting Goods has begun work on a filling station at the corner of Washington and Lumpkin streets. Brick has been hauled and construction will be rushed. Proprietors say the service station will be one of the citys handsomest. William J. Milter is the contractor. permit sets the initial cost at 4000 dollars, with total outlay expected to be much higher.
Mrs Dicy Strickland of 155 State street died at ten o clock Thursday night at her daughter s home. She was 66 years old. Funeral services will be held at four o clock Friday afternoon at the Baptist church in Bogart with Rev Willie Saye officiating. She is survived by one son J L Clotfelter, one daughter Mrs J R Buzhardt, five brothers James O Kelly Lambkin Kelly John O Kelly R F O Kelly and fenege O Kelly, one sister Mrs 15 Barnett. Dunnaway and Sons are in charge of the funeral.
Mobile defeated New Orleans 10 to 1 and Birmingham beat Nashville 5 to 3 in the Southern League. Memphis fell to Tittle Rock 10 to 6, Chattanooga won over St. Louis 7 to 4, and Chicago beat St. Louis 2 to 4 in the American League. National League games saw New York 4 Brooklyn 3, St. Louis 8 Pittsburgh 4, Cincinnati 1 Chicago 6.
