Lawrenceville Ga 1 15 a m April 8 Charlie Hale a negro accused of assaults on Mrs Chas C Williams was dragged from jail by a crowd of about six hundred with a rope around his neck and swung from a pole in front of the bank building amid vivid lightning flashes. Earlier at 9 p m crowds threatened lynching as Governor ordered state troops ready. Judge Brand urged swift fair action as Sheriff Garner tightened jail guards and the prisoner remained secure.
