Eleven year old girl wanders miles from home found near city
An eleven year old daughter of Jerre Smith went missing from her rural home near Barnett Shoals and after hours of searching was found tired and hungry in the road near Car's Branch at the city limits. She had walked about twelve to fourteen miles and slept with a local country family. Her parents said she had been told to go away, but the girl clung to Patrolman John Short and wished to stay with him.

Tragic Shooting Fatal for Six Year Old Brother
A six year old colored boy from the Morton vicinity near Winterville was shot and killed by his older brother yesterday morning. The older boy, 3 or 4 years older, procured a loaded shotgun to shoot a rabbit and the weapon discharged, striking the younger boy who had run ahead.
