Mrs. Mary Tompkins Laid To Rest At Athena
Mrs. Mary Tompkins died following an operation at Hot Lake Sanitarium on October 17 1928. Funeral services were held at the Athena Methodist Church led by Rev Melville T Wire with music by local quartet. She was born in Detroit in 1861 and lived in Nevada California and Washington before settling near Athena. Surviving children include John Tompkins William Boy Tompkins James Wesley Tompkins Clara Jane Riley Mabel Coppock and Lillian Penrose Woodruff. eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Beckner Adopts New Caterpillar Hitch for Harrow Prospect

Colin V. Dyment 48 former dean of the University of Oregon College of Literature Science and Arts died of pneumonia Sunday in Hayward California. He was a Walla Walla Union veteran and longtime Pacific Northwest newspaper man whose career included The Spokesman Review Daily Union Walla Walla Evening Telegram Oregon Journal Portland Eugene Register and his renowned World War II military casualty history of the 91st Division. Evangelistic Meetings Planned at Athena Christian Church
A series of evangelistic meetings will begin Sunday, November 4, at the Athena Christian Church. Speaker J. R. Johnson, a nationally prominent evangelist, will lead the meetings. Johnson, Alabama native, has fifteen years in the ministry and has preached across the United States. During World War I he served in government employ advising shipyard workers to boost morale. He presents a balanced, pastor’s perspective and a calm, logical approach.

L. C. Rothrock a pioneer farmer of Umatilla county and longtime Pendleton resident died at St. Anthony's hospital. He came to the county in 1868 from Illinois.
