Parsonage Planned for Local Church Down the Street

The Christian church will build a parsonage in Athena costing about 1500 dollars. The contract will be let soon and the home for the pastor and family should be finished quickly. Ground materials expected next week. Location is west of the church. Rev. Jenkins and family currently reside in Mrs. McIntyre's West Side home.

FELL TO HIS DEATH A J Wise Weston Pioneer

Andrew J. Wise a coast pioneer of 1849 and longtime Weston resident died in a fall at his home near Perrydale Polk County He fell while feeding a horse in the barn injuring his spinal cord and suffering brain paralysis He was about 72 a native of New York who came to California in 1849 and lived in Oregon Perrydale before settling near Weston and later returning to Perrydale Mrs Wise is a daughter of Grandma McGrew of Weston.

Oregon Society Offers Essay Prizes to School Children

The Oregon Society of Sons of the American Revolution announces prizes for public school students. Top three essays on Revolutionary topics will receive 25 15 and 10 dollars respectively. Subjects include The Arousing of Public Opinion among others.

Knights of Pythias Grand Lodge session in Portland debates end of sick benefits

The Grand Lodge of Knights of Pythias in Portland discussed removing sick benefits and electing Grand Chancellor by delegate vote. Grand Chancellor J. W. Maloney announced a 258 net member gain this year, with about 6 000 total in the jurisdiction and plans for district conventions funded by a per member tax. Emil Waldman named Grand Chancellor Commander, while Mable Chastain and BE Barnett were elected as Rathbone Sister officers from Umatilla County communities.

Knox Kantner Concert at Athena Opera House

The Knox Kantner Concert Company is billed for the Athena opera house on October 24. The Newport beach review praises Mr Knox and the company noting his impersonations drew tremendous applause and the entire program was cheered.
