Lewiston Normal Shows Rapid Enrollment Growth

The Lewiston State Normal opened with an encouraging enrollment rise. Last year 272 were registered and this year the total will exceed 550. Students come from Idaho regions as well as Washington, Oregon, Montana, Oklahoma, Iowa, North and South Dakota, Wisconsin.

Life diploma reach beyond Idaho sparks big enrollments

The Lewiston Normal diploma is recognized in California Washington and Montana, boosting registrations. A bold daylight burglary on Water Street Pendleton targeted a Rocach home. jewelry and clothing valued at hundreds were stolen while the family was away. The county plans to pay out $5509.42 from the general fund for recent elections court terms and routine county business. Warrants issued at the October term are being sent by the clerk.

Postmaster Githens Dies After Illness in Athena

L A Githens postmaster died at his home after several months of illness from Brights disease. He 68, survived by one son and five daughters. Funeral held at Weston cemetery. His son Harold ran the Athena post office during his illness. Also notes on A J Willaby’s epileptic episode and civil service exam vacancies in Pendleton.

Athena school opens with new Michigan teacher and enhanced facilities

Misa Stoarna of Michigan arrives in Athena to join the faculty. A full staffing slate is announced with Baker as principal, Wells as assistant principal, Hill teaching commercial studies, and several teachers for grades one through eight. The building gains updated finishes, a modern blackboard system, and a new chemistry laboratory table. The high school forms a literary society and plans debates, while a large Portland piano is expected to arrive soon to boost morning exercises and music emphasis.

Mrs Whitehead Laid Away In Athena Cemetery

Mrs Lizeio Whitehead aged 66 years and 17 days was buried in Athena cemetery Wednesday morning. The deceased was the wife of R H Whitehead of Medford Oregon and died there in October 1910. Survived by husband and daughter, two children preceded her to the grave. Family formerly lived near Adaway on a MacKenzie farm and left the county about 20 years ago. Remains were escorted by Mr Whiteshead and his daughter and Mrs Lens Johnson sister of the deceased. Funeral conducted by Rev K E Storey of the Baptist church of Pendleton.
