Seventh County Potato Show Dates Set for Weston
The Seventh County Potato Show will be held Friday and Saturday, November 16 and 17, 1928, in Weston. Premiums cover seed potatoes, beans, corn, grains, and canned goods, with changes including elimination of mountain seed and twelve selected hills. Exhibits must be grown by actual farmers or their agents and entries due by November 14 at the High School Gym.

Many Sheep On The Umatilla Range Back To Winter Feed
About 75 000 sheep are pastured in the Walla Walla district of the Umatilla National Forest. Forest Ranger Albert Baker arrived to prepare reports and said the sheep would be moved off the range within four days to avoid road crowding. Cattle, about 1 200 head, will stay until November. The range is very dry with two fires found Sunday, each small and controlled. Baker calls this the dryest season he has seen here and notes poor deer hunting due to the dry brush. A road crew began work on the Bones Springs trail yesterday.

Fire on the H. D. May place near the state highway between Walla Walla and Milton destroyed a horse barn valued at about 5 000 dollars and a hay barn about 750 dollars. The total damage neared 8 000 dollars with 100 tons of hay and equipment lost. Neighbors saved the cow. cause undetermined. Mr May retired about 9 p m and noticed the blaze through a window. Two Burned By Sodium Chlorate
Walla Walla reports two men severely burned by dry sodium chlorate on their clothes despite Farm Bureau warnings. Tom Jones suffered burns as his trouser legs caught fire while walking through a wheat field. Frank Stubblefield was burned when a stick snagged his cuff and ignited the fabric. Safe handling requires removing the chemical when wet or dry to prevent friction ignition.
Pheasant Season Opens With Mixed Early Results
The pheasant season opened midweek under a cold wind with birds flying. Hunters reported varied success while others reached their daily or weekly bag limits. The season runs nine hunting days on Wednesdays and Sundays this month with a four per day or eight per seven days limit for Chinese pheasants, allowing at most one female in any seven days. Ducks and Hungarian partridges also opened on Sunday with no reports of hunting activity yet.
