Ranch shooting leaves neighbor dead and rancher wounded
In the basin north of Athena last night Mike Ryan shot and killed Dixon and gravely wounded neighbor Jamey Schubert after a dispute over a road to Schubert’s homestead. Schubert crawled home while Dixon fell where he dropped. Sheriff and coroner investigated. Ryan remained armed in his field. Dixon left a wife and children. Also noted: W J Neil died at 71 in Nyssa after long illness. he had come to Oregon in 1855 and run the Nyssa hotel. The notice ends with a bogus ad about children’s hats and rolls from Lidsis Jones.
