Licenses Granted Amid City Council Debate
Charles Grant of the Corner near beer saloon received a license after a special council session on May 7, amid opposition over ordinance validity. John Stanton also secured a license under the new provisions. Grant’s bond and license money were filed. the council debated whether the ordinance to license beverages complies with the local option law. Councilman Johnson alone voted against granting Grant. Pendleton voters boosted Joseph Simon in the Republican primary, with Simon defeating Bushlight and others for mayor. The body of Chief Hoosie-mox-mox, a Palonge trite leader aged over 85, who disappeared near Cayuse, was recovered Thursday. It was found lodged on drift about four miles below the crossing where he was last seen.
