Pendleton dominates county track meet standings

Pendleton took first and McLaughlin second at the county track meet in Pendleton on Saturday. Hermiston edged Pilot Rock for third by a half point. Hermiston finished with 13 points while Pilot Rock totaled 12.44 points.

Rail unions and western railroads agree to arbitration over wage rise

After three weeks of talks, the Brotherhood of Railway Conductors and Railway Trainmen reach a settlement to submit the wage dispute under the Railway Labor Act. The unions seek a one percent increase while railroads say the cost would be 11 to 13 million dollars annually and not justified by earnings.
