Oregon News Snippets Reflect Civic Hopes and Oddities
A medley of notes covers urban plans and local quirks from Oregon towns. From Chinook’s snow impact and Portland theater listings to Klamath Falls streets, Seattle money hunts, and school site votes, the clippings mix civic plans with seasonal trivia and weather echoes.
Opinions Split in Congress Over Farm Relief Plans
Two rival farm relief proposals emerge from ex-Governor Lowden of Illinois and ex-Secretary Meredith of Iowa. Lowden backs the McNary Haugen scheme to lift prices by removing surpluses via producer fees, while Meredith favors a federal farm board to buy surplus post harvest and adjust output by insurance-like fees. The plan centers on whether a board or cooperative would set prices or study conditions to guide decisions. Winter wheat acreage rises slightly but remains below ideal health.
