Native Oregonian A J Willaby Dies in Portland

A J Willaby native of Linn County died Monday at 1 pm after hospital care in Portland. His sons Dean Clyde and Virgil arrived shortly before his death. Surviving, wife Minnie Frakee and three sons, brother William P Willaby, and sister Mia Knowlton. Funeral at the Christian church conducted by Pastor Meldraw.

Helfrich on Deathbed Requests Athena Burial

On his deathbed in Oregon City facing Brights disease, Pred L Helfrich, once in the alive business in Athena, asks to be buried in Athena cemetery. Lodge members relay the wish via Fred Johnson, his brother in law, as recovery is not expected. Helfrich, a resident of Elgin, belonged to Mason ic and K of P orders and was a once noted Athena band musician under O O Sharp.

Barley and Hops Exhibit Aims At Eight Thousand Dollar Prize

Wind Shatters Wheat Across Local Farms

A Monday evening wind storm caused severe wheat losses in the Weston area. The McGrew place east of Weston reported major damage with yields reduced to about 20 bushels per acre. Nearby fields also suffered significant destruction from the gusts.

Bombarding Grouse Opens Season Across Mountains

Grouse season opened Tuesday with mountains and foothills east of town resounding with hunting activity. Hunters reported limits of five in some cases, though most secured two or three birds, and many returned empty handed after difficult treks.

Richards Opens Warehouse In Local Market

B B Richards former Puget Sound agent takes over the city’s big warehouse and starts general storage services. He will store grain and offer hay and potato storage to mountain farmers. Richards in Athena has earned trust through fair dealing and will provide ample capacity for large consignments with per ton storage charges of 500 for the initial period and 260 yearly after the first July.
