Walla Walla Preston Ray Slim Clark was sentenced to death at the state penitentiary for first degree murder in the Alpeus Bidwell poisoning case. Judge John L. Sharpstein declared the death penalty mandatory and ordered Clark turned over for execution on June 3, with an appeal possible to the state supreme court.

Pioneer County Woman Nellie Hager Dies at 81
Nellie Hager a longtime resident of Umatilla county died at her Gibbon home after six days of pneumonia at age 81. She and husband R C Hager observed 59 years of marriage in January. Survived by husband, son John of Gibbon, daughters Mrs Lee Drake of Astoria and Mrs Bert Geer of Toledo. Funeral services were held in Pendleton with burial at Olney cemetery.

Two physicians who practiced in Pendleton died over the weekend. Dr. D. J. McFaul, a leading Pendleton physician who moved from Adams, died Friday in Pasadena, California. On Monday, Dr. E. B. Waffle died in Astoria after moving from Pendleton several years ago to open an office there.

James A. Scott Dies After Long Illness
Funeral held Monday at 2 30 p m at the Christian church in Athena with Rev McQuarry of Milton officiating. James A Scott 78 longtime Athena cartoonist known as Scrib, died April 21 1928 in Good Samaritan hospital after failing health. Survived by sister Susan Gerking and six nephews nine nieces. He lived in Illinois Missouri Texas Oregon and California before settling in Long Beach for over 20 years.

Oregon Prisoners Kelley and Willes Executed for 1925 Break
Kelley and Willes were executed at the Oregon state penitentiary for role in the August 12 1925 prison break in which two guards were killed. Kelley died at 8 43 after the trap dropped at 8 31. Willes died at 8 63 and was pronounced dead twelve minutes later.
