Market notes describe a city market mixing spring and autumn produce. Bright pink radishes, icicle radishes sell three for a dime, damgon and red plums at 50 cents a basket, roasting ears ten cents a dozen, big yellow pumpkins, spinach at ten cents a pound, grapes twenty cents a basket, sweet potatoes eight cents a pound, carrots and turnips three for a dime, squash three for a dime, eggs twenty five cents a dozen, two dozen for forty five cents, spring chickens fifteen cents, and various tomatoes and preserves. A market highlight is eye plants five or ten cents, summer squash five and ten cents, lima beans fifteen cents a pint, pickling onions ten cents a quart, okra ten cents a pound, watermelons twenty and thirty five, peaches six cents a pound, apples and beets in season, string beans five cents a pound, Bermuda onions four cents a pound. Mrs G W Searles, longtime market buyer, is noted for her popular presence at Atchison markets.

Home Loan banks offer relief for mortgage holders

Banks holding mortgages can join the system, making 12 percent of their mortgages rediscountable to secure funds without pressuring borrowers.
