Kitten Bite Triggers Rabies Scare In Sarver Family
Mrs. E. Franklin Sarver of 517 South Seventh street received Pasteur treatment after a kitten bite. The head of the kitten tested rabid, and other family members also began Pasteur treatment. The cats were two five week old kittens picked up on Nortonville road. Mr. Sarver, an electrical engineer, killed both kittens and sent their heads for examination. The report confirmed rabies.

Portwood Lands Big Job As Texas Schools Chief
Thomas B. Portwood resigns after five years as Atchison public schools superintendent to become assistant superintendent of secondary schools in San Antonio Texas. Effective October 1 his replacement is unnamed. Portwood will oversee 10 junior highs and three senior highs and expand curriculum with graduate work from Columbia. He praises Atchison and plans to relocate after finalizing affairs.

Muscotah Rotary hosts welcomed 50 to 60 guests from Muscotah and nearby as Atchison Rotarians dined with Congregational church ladies serving fried chicken and trimmings. President Poindexter presided, fines were issued for excess eating, and speakers touted Rotary aims of fellowship and world understanding alongside local praise for the town and its people.

Charles V. Fletcher 81 retired Missouri Pacific conductor died at his home in Atchison after a two year decline, ending a 57 year railroad career with Hannibal and St Joseph, Central Branch and Missouri Pacific. Funeral Monday at 2 pm at home with Masons and Presbyterian rites, burial Mt Vernon. Survivors include widow Minnie and sons Charles W Fletcher of New York and Roy Merriam Fletcher of Seattle.
