Combined tax rate rise hits Atchison 1930 levy

Atchison faces a 5.1 cent per $1,000 rise in the 1930 combined tax rate due to a 32.1 cent school levy increase to 12.50. Court orders and tax refunds to banks and the Carlisle estate trigger the deficit. County, city, and state levies are trimmed, with a $6.15 per $1,000 county rate and the total levy at 35.13.

A hydrophobia warning spreads after C E Cue 44 a piano tuner dies from rabies contracted from a dog bite on June 30. Nine Atchison children also bitten recently amid calls for muzzling or tying dogs and stray-dog pickup.
