Local filling station robbed after stand up by lone bandit
The James Poultry Co. filling station at Twelfth and Commercial was robbed by a single man about 8:30 pm. He demanded cash from attendant Joe Symns and forced painter J. E. Anderson into the premises. The thief, about 40, five foot nine, 140 pounds, wore a light suit and cap with a stocking mask and fired three shots as he fled toward an alley. About $120 was taken.

The program honored George Washington and Founders Day with readings, songs, and a candle lighting ceremony. Burial services for A. B. Howe are set for Sunday at 2:30 at the Presbyterian church with interment at Mt. Vernon. Pallbearers listed. Mrs. Tom Rose plans to return to Topeka from Atchison this evening.
