Farm land values slashed in northeastern Kansas hearings
County officials from Atchison Doniphan Brown Leavenworth Nemaha Jefferson Jackson Washington Marshall and Pottawatomie testified before the Kansas state tax commission in Holton that 1930 farm assessments were about 10 per cent too high and that current real estate values have fallen 20 to 38 per cent since 1930. Witnesses cited lower classing and broad declines, with some urging reductions of 20 to 25 per cent and noting limited spontaneous sales over two years plus foreclosures as the norm.
