Paul Scott of Sabetha 18, Sammy Jones 17 of Atchison and Benjamin Chenn 17 were sentenced for first degree burglary grand larceny and auto theft. Scott faces up to 26 years, Jones up to 21, Chenn five, as part of a five boy gang linked to numerous Atchison burglaries including the Memorial Day ring theft at the McKelvy home.

Agnes Sullivan, Mt. St. Scholastica student, is summering at Farmers State Bank in Merce r. her father John E. Sullivan is a bank officer. Potter’s annual picnic set for July 14 and 15. Chamber of Commerce may take the Atchison High School band to the picnic. At Baptist picnic, George McKinney lost ten pounds playing black man and Charlie Brading gained ten pounds from peach ice cream and cake. Mrs. Ernest Poehler and daughter Mary Katherine of Wichita will visit the Beam home Sunday and stay through July 4. Tommy Malone from Wichita to accompany them to Atchison.

John Hollyfield, among the youngest hobos ever quartered in the city jail, was released after Morrilton Ark authorities confirmed the youth’s father could not provide transport. Bootleggers Hit With Heavy Fines and Prison Terms
In district court Judge W. A. Jackson sentenced two men linked to Atchison county bootlegging. A. C. Garrison received 400 dollars in fines and four months in the county jail for possession of intoxicating liquor and nuisance maintenance. Floyd Gore drew six months plus a 200 dollar fine. Other raid arrestee Cynthia Woodard had a preliminary hearing set after pleading not guilty. Sleep While Robbers Work At Howe Home
From Wednesday's Daily June 15 a thief entered the Howe residence at 1117 North Third Street while E. W. Howe former Globe editor and his niece Adelaide Howe slept. A diamond ring worth 400 dollars a diamond and topaz cross on a chain about 12 dollars were taken along with two six dollar bills and about 2 dollars in cash. The thief access may have been through a first floor front southeast window and both doors were found open this morning. Police suspect a person familiar with the home and habits of the Howes. Two men connected to the household were being questioned.

Severance man leaves hospital after bridge accident

Four Arrests In Raids Here In Atchison County
Sheriff Ray Fletcher's office and two federal agents conducted five raids across Atchison County seizing 57 gallons of alleged intoxicating liquor. A. C. Garrison near Omaha Junction was arrested with 35 gallons, Cynthia Woodard near Forest Park faced arrest, though absent, after voluntary surrender. Charles Haynes farm west of Forest Park yielded one gallon, and Lloyd Gore near Hanna farm west of town was nabbed with 16 gallons.
