County Clerk Dick Gilman released the assessors figures showing Atchison County towns gaining population this year. Atchison up to 15,528 from 15,116. Huron 178 up from 166. Muscotah 400 up from 377. Effingham 54 up from 9. Lancaster declines to 171 from 271 due to road work last year. Township totals: Benton 921, Grasshopper 785, Kaptoma 883, Lancaster 916, Mt. Pleasant 1,069, Shannon 2,403, Walnut incomplete, Center 1,076. Population shifts reflect local industrial and building activity.

The Kansas State Elks association chose Salina to host the 1928 convention, with Goodland a strong bidder. J. M. Houston of Newton was elected state president, and officers for the coming year include Roy Wilson Atchison first vice president B J Hoffman Salina second vice president E W Sullivan Goodland third vice president B W Greenwald Hutchinson treasurer Mark W Drehmer Newton secretary and trustees C M Voelker Atchison James Farley Wichita. The convention closed after officers were installed and the city was praised for its hospitality. A large social dance A Lake View pavilion Sugar Lake drew many visitors with Riley's orchestra providing music. A golf tournament at Bellevue Country Club was won by Russell Graybill Newton by one half point over George Hausam Hutchinson. a scoring error initially misattributed the win. The blind bogey was shared by H J Lehmann and Julius Waldstein Leavenworth. Waldstein won the Dunlop tie breaker.
