Major fire hits St Benedict’s college oldest building
A Friday afternoon blaze at St Benedict’s college on Second and Division streets caused 20 000 to 25 000 dollars in damage. The roof fire damaged the east wing and water spread to two floors including the chemistry department infirmary printing office and parish quarters. Chemistry gear valued at 15 000 dollars was soaked but the department’s losses were minor. Firemen used city hydrants and a backyard plug to combat the blaze.
