Hastings Ends His Life In City Apartment
Despondent over ill health 54 year old Jake Hastings shot himself in his rooms at 315%4 Parallel Street this afternoon. He died at Atchison hospital at 3 pm after the single pistol shot to the head. The body was found by neighbor Dave Corner. A note left by Hastings mentioned no one to blame and named his sister Alma Meadlock and a Kansas City wife for contact. Hastings had recent sun stroke headaches and had worked as a night watchman for Symas Grocer Co. until a month ago.

Virgil Chubby Snodgrass 21 of Severance drowned while swimming with friends under a bridge over the Wolf River near Arnold Atkins farm. His body remains missing amid debris as searchers line the river.
