Atchison Leads State Yet Again in Municipal Debt

Atchison shows the lowest bonded indebtedness among first class Kansas cities and among the lowest tax rates for property and school taxes. 1927 motor vehicle licenses in Atchison county total $51 381.99 with plans to reduce debt to zero in a few years under commission city manager rule.

Anton Zeit of Shannon Dies in sixty-one years old

Anton Zeit a Shannon farmer died at 8 45 last night after paralysis Monday and pneumonia developed. He was 61 survived by wife Mary and six children. Funeral Friday at 10 from St Louis church with listed pallbearers. The Zeit family lived two miles north of Shannon.

Plan for Sugarlake Lake Resort and Club

Plans announced for a Sugarlake resort and golf club one and a half miles east of here. J F Studley of Chicago backs a south shore development with an 18 hole golf course a $40 000 clubhouse a half mile racing track stables and a bathing beach. Members expected from Atchison Kansas City Leavenworth and St Joe.

Fire destroys an old Rushville landmark

Fire destroyed the six room residence of Mr and Mrs Bob Brewer in Rushville on Friday night the cause is unknown and the owners were away from home. The house has a long history dating to 1861 with multiple owners and renovations spanning generations. Spectators escaped injury when the old chimney collapsed after the blaze.

Lednicky Pedure Wedding at St Joseph Everest

The Lednicky and Perdue marriage was held at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Everest at 8 o'clock this morning. Relatives and wedding party dressed in formal attire, with a breakfast reception at the bride's parents home. The couple plans a Canadian and midwest trip to Windsor Chicago St Louis and Detroit after the ceremony.

Atchison District Council forms to boost Boy Scout work

The Atchison District Council, Boy Scouts of America, organized in Chamber of Commerce rooms with John Kaff as president and Gilbert Guthrie as secretary. The new body has jurisdiction over Atchison Doniphan Brown and Buchanan counties and plans to form more troops for about six hundred scout age boys in Atchison.

The Atchison County Horticultural association will hold a three day series February 15 to 17 after rain postponed it. Home Robbed While Owner Aided Motorist

An elderly man near Effingham reported a burglary after helping a stranded motorist. While he was away at work, thieves cut open a locked suitcase and stole two watches, a shotgun, razor, and valuables. The discovery was made around 2 a.m. with no trace of suspects.

Atchison P T A plans benefit concert for convention funds

The Atchison Parent-Teacher Association will host a February 21 concert in the high school auditorium to raise 300 to 400 dollars for the State Association of Points and Teachers convention. Tickets are 50 cents with a program featuring the junior and senior orchestras and local groups, aiming to attract 800 delegates from 14 parts of the state.
