Fatal crash near Shannon ends Louis Lassen young life

A Friday Thanksgiving motor crash near Shannon claims Louis Robert Lassen 18 as he and John Flattie 18 collide on the highway to Effingham. Lassen dies from a fractured skull en route to a doctor. Weese, Jahne and Flattie suffer injuries as cars roll over. An inquest is planned to determine fault. The Los Angeles-based incident investigation includes Delays in ambulance arrival and statements from witnesses.

Elks Memorial Service Scheduled At Atchison

Atchison Elks plan memorial services tomorrow at 3 pm to honor eight deceased members plus all past lodge dead. Dr F W O Donnell will deliver the memorial address at the Elks club with a program including vocal and violin solos and a roll call of the departed. The event benefits sick members and hospital patients.

Clay Askren Slugged On Front Steps In Atchison

Clay Askren, 68, confectioner at 1341 Main, was slugged and robbed on the front steps of his granddaughter’s house at 1412 Main last night around 9 o’clock. He was struck, fell, and crawled home hours later. his eye lens was broken and his head bruised. The thief took money and a watch, which was found nearby this morning. Askren had just left his shop after a flu siege and is resting at his aunt’s home, 1414 Main.
