Atchison on Monday will launch the American Savings State bank, a merger of the Atchison Savings bank and the American State Bank. The new institution starts with over 1.1 million in deposits, 125000 capital surplus, $90,000 new money, and a leadership team headed by W. T. Fox as president, with M. J. Hines and Frank A. Mangelsdorf among officers.

Dr. C P Elder of Atchison will become president of the Kansas State Dental Association at its 61st annual meeting in Wichita, the first from Atchison since 1887. The three day gathering features clinics by over 60 practitioners and notable speakers Dr Sterling Mead and Dr Thomas Purcell among others. Dr Aitken, Valley Falls, honored guest, oldest living member, born 1845 in Scotland, practiced in Grasshopper Falls before retirement.

Mrs Helen Brown Martin aged 17 wife of J H Martin of 1444 South Eighth Street died at 10 pm following influenza complications. Funeral set for 1:30 pm tomorrow at Stanton Stanton funeral home with Muscotah cemetery burial. She born March 17 1915 at Muscotah married Howard Martin May 24 1931. Survived by husband daughter Joanne aged one month, her parents, and grandparents all of Muscotah.

Death of Burlington fireman John Laskey
John R. Laskey 71 retired Burlington locomotive fireman died at his Atchison home from a stroke. Funeral 2 p.m. Friday at Stan ton Stanton chapel with burial in Mount Vernon. Survivors include wife Anna Hinds two children one stepson and other relatives in Atchison Ottumwa Lincoln and Kansas City. He was born January 19 1861 in Waukegan Michigan and moved to Atchison in 1896 retiring in 1930 after 34 years service.

Domann Pioneer of Mooney Creek Dies at 88
William M. Domann a longtime Mooney Creek resident died at 1:30 this morning at his son Frank’s home. Born in Westfalen Germany on September 24 1843 he came to America at 19. He married Charlotte Noll and they had twelve children. Surviving are fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Funeral will be at Corpus Christi Mooney Creek Friday at 9:30 with burial in the family lot.

Asa Barnes aged 78 died shortly before 4 a m on the Curlew area farm where he and his parents settled in 1859. He was among Atchison county’s oldest residents. Funeral at 2 p m Monday at the Barnes home with burial in Round Mound cemetery. Survived by widow Mary Katherine Thompson four children Bert Ernest Barnes Mrs Mont Saggs and Mrs Jed Pease two brothers Oren and Harry Barnes nine grandchildren. A daughter Ed Lee died in 1925.
