Apple crop outlook grows with 500 more acres planted this spring
Atchison county horticulturist Henry Lobenstein told Kiwanis members the county will see a good Jonathan apple crop despite freezes. While Black Twig Winesap and Gano were hit hard, buds were numerous enough to support a partial yield. 500 more acres were planted, with 200,000 trees under contract for next year.

Guy Elwell announced that the Steinite jobbers conference will be held in Atchison April 30 to May 1 to unveil the 1928-1929 radio line. About 75 to 100 distributors from cities including New York Philadelphia Chicago Los Angeles and Dallas will attend. Events include luncheons banquets shows and a tour of the Steinite plant with a special train from Kansas City.

Samuel E Walters 75 longtime railroad engineer and Atchison pioneer died at 9 20 am at 517 Atchison street cause heart trouble. He worked as union depot yard master until Monday noon and fainted in a drug store yesterday. Born near DeKalb Missouri in 1852 he moved to Atchison as a child and Later lived in Kansas City Caldwell and returned to Atchison in 1906. He was a Mason and survived by a daughter two sisters a brother and two grandchildren. Funeral Saturday at 2 pm from the residence with burial in Effingham.
