Doud Charged With Bank Embezzlement in Cummings Case

C W Doud, cashier at Farmers State Bank in Cummings, is arraigned on embezzlement charges after the bank closed with a $30,000 shortage. He pled not guilty, bond set at $5,000, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled. Prosecutors seek a three to six year term per amended penal code.

Hope Turns Sour as Ranger Faces Bank Shortfall

W F Doud, 28, ranger at Farmers State Bank in Cummings, is jailed amid a $30,000 bank shortfall. He admits misappropriating funds to cover investments gone bad after borrowing from Laughlin banks and says he planned to repay. He turned over securities valued around $10,000. investments include Ozark resort funds. Local merchants froze operations as the bank collapsed. community shops faced cash shortages and halted offers.

Troy officers round up liquor law violators

From Saturday's Daily three Sheriff Larson and Under Sheriff Shape with County Attorney Delaney searched homes in Doniphan County for Volstead Act violators. They found 10 gallons of grape and rhubarb wine under a floorboard at Pat Munger's home south of Wathena, fined Munger $100 and jailed him 30 days. A suspect named J C Faris was found with two gallons of alcohol in a car near South Elwood and held on $1,000 bond awaiting April 5 hearing. Charles Clary hid a half pint during arrest in a restaurant. he remained jailed. Thursday John Clary was arrested for bootlegging and jailed. Candy Mac obituary notes his Beloit candy factory career and Beloit fame through the years. A Wichita aviator nose-dived in a corn field during a stunt. Percy Gilman survived. Charles Tabor, 716 George St, sustained two broken ribs but returned to work at Missouri Pacific shops.
