The Rock River conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church will elect eight ministerial and eight lay delegates to the general conference at Saratoga Springs New York next May. The seventy sixth annual session opens October 5 at First Methodist Englewood with Bishop W F McDowell presiding.

An agricultural tip urges farmers with hundreds of acres of corn that won’t mature to build silos. Silaging yields about 8 tons per acre valued at $5 a ton, equating to at least $10 per acre, better than 50 bushels at 75 cents each. The feed stores well for years and aids summer grazing when pastures run short. It notes it is not too late to put up a silo.
County Fair marred by rain and disease
The Lee County Fair was dampened by rain with foot and mouth disease halting cattle sheep and swine exhibits. Despite weather, many blue ribbons went to Ashton, Knapp and the Ashton Belgian Draft Horse Company along with large poultry and dairy displays and a strong racing program on Friday despite a heavy track.
