The Ashton Public School will start next Monday in available spaces as the new building nears completion. Contractor Hoar of Iowa City recently inspected progress and assured occupancy by mid October, with safe move-in planned after finishing touches.
The Ogle County Fair Association plans a traditional county fair with exhibits of horses cattle sheep swine poultry fruits flowers canned goods and crafts plus free entertainments and races. Admission remains 25 cents and dates are September 24 25 26 on Oregon Illinois grounds offering boating fishing shade and a premium list from secretary Z A Landers. Clarence Cheadle enrolls in Rockford High School Senior class and works in Hess Brothers Furniture in off hours.
Richard Seeley aged about 32, oldest son of Mr and Mrs George Seeley, was killed when struck by a 4:38 passenger engine at the first crossing west of Flagg. The accident occurred as he drove a horse and buggy south from Flagg. obstructed view from repair cars on a side track delayed detection. Seeley died of a broken neck and skull fracture. his funeral was held in Rochelle with burial at Flagg Center cemetery.
William Young died Sunday evening at his son William’s home nine miles south of Ashton from heart failure. He was born September 14, 1838 in McLean County and lived in Ford Livingston McLean and Kankakee counties before retiring to Marion County. Survived by wife Melissa Lambert and eight children Clara Smith Martha Reed Elmira Malone Warren Madison William Merrit Clarence. Funeral held at his son’s home led by Rev. Gustav Mack with Ashton cemetery burial.

Mr and Mrs Harry Quick visited DeKalb relatives yesterday.
The Lee County Fair Association hosts the fourth annual fair in Amboy from September 16 to 19. W. A. Weber of Compton is president and W. L. Leech of Amboy secretary. Major upgrades include a widened grandstand seating 4,000, a motor dome, and expanded midway with bands, acrobats, balloon flights, and strength feats. Children receive free admission on opening day, with school groups guided by Leech. The event features races, livestock shows, Shetland pony entries, and substantial prizes across cattle, horse, and hog divisions.
The Mrs William Lesslie class of the Methodist Episcopal Sunday school took a motor trip with 86 members and 50 passengers in nine automobiles starting from Ashton at 8 30. They visited Dixon Grand Detour Camp Hope Oregon and the Black Hawk Monument and returned via Sinnissippi farm for a memorable day.
Justina Caroline Harck born March 11 1840 in Germany died September 2 1913 at her daughter Mrs Columbus Roberts home in Bradford township Lee county Illinois aged 73 years 5 months 22 days. Survived by eight of twelve children including August Richard Benjamin Gustav Fred Will Emma Harshman and Erastina Roberts. Immigrated to America 1887 with husband and children arriving Baltimore April 1 then Bradford township. Suffered asthma from a cold contracted en route and endured hardship after her husband August Harck died August 16 1888. Converted in the Evangelical church and died a faithful member of the Bradford United Evangelical church. Funeral by Rev G A Walter at Bradford United Evangelical church. interment in Bradford cemetery.
The Mystic Workers formed a new lodge of 18 members at the opera house last Wednesday. Officers elected include Prefect Wm F Klingebiel Monitor Howard D Mosher Secretary Henry C Nelson Banker Mrs Frank Eisenberg Marshall John Oesterheld Warden Lloyd Attig Outside Sentinel Geo Stephan Dewitt Ellinwood Supervisors Carl Stephan. A banquet at the Ashton hotel followed, hosted by Rose, to celebrate the effort. The Ashton Lodge number is 1182.
William Killmer began removing the shed at the rear of Ashton Garage to allow a fall enlargement. The 32 by 40 foot structure will gain a 46 by 66 foot addition with the east wall rebuilt on the lot edge. The expanded space will exceed twice the current capacity and accommodate more cars and equipment. Boyd, the proprietor, is a skilled mechanic drawing repairs from distant customers.
The Ashton couple Myrtle George and William H. Edgington were married at St. Paul Lutheran parsonage in Dixon with Rev. F D Altman officiating. Attendants were Bessie Walker and Dallas Taylor. The couple planned to reside with the Edgingtons on their Franklin Grove area farm.
The Chicago weather bureau bulletin notes August was not as hot as July with a mean of 74.3 degrees, over three degrees above normal. Four days reached 90 or higher, heat spells broken by cool lake breezes. Total 19 days at or above 90 for the summer. Rainfall abundant and sunshine near normal.
The Ladies Aid society of the Methodist church will meet next week Wednesday afternoon at the church. All members are requested to be present and bring needles and thimbles prepared to sew carpet.
A. M. Moore of this city escaped death when a fast westbound train struck his Ford touring car as it stalled on the east bound track. He leapt free as the engine braked to a stop. the car was crushed to scrap iron, yet his quick action saved his life.
