Reynolds Pioneer Henry Menz Dies at 87
Henry Menz Sr a Reynolds township pioneer died last Thursday at his daughter's home at age 87 after a stroke. Born in Germany in 1826 he arrived in America in 1868 and worked as a stone mason before focusing on farming. He leaves seven children two sisters 23 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral Sunday at Reynolds Evangelical Church with Rev. F Thiess officiating. Interment in Reynolds cemetery.

County Fair to Expand Amphitheatre and Advance Dates
The Lee County Fair grounds amphitheatre will more than double in size, exceeding 200 feet in length to handle expected crowds. The fair runs September 16 to 19 with daily races including pony and foot races for children, three bands, acrobatics by the Three Tyrones, and a bustling midway. Prizes and exhibits for livestock, poultry, fruit, vegetables and crafts are promoted, aiming for a record fair. District to Pay Tuition for Resident High School Students
A new law requires districts to cover high school tuition for graduates of the eighth grade who reside in districts without a public high school. Tuition is limited to the per capita cost of the chosen high school and paid from district funds. Parents choose the high school with school board approval, provided the program runs four years. Earlier a near fatal car crash on a Dixon road bridge left four young people unharmed after swift actions by Coroner George B. Stephan Faust H. Boyd and others. The damaged seven passenger Staver was driven to Dixon for repair.

Rachael Drummond 78 Pioneer of Lafayette Township Dies
Mrs. Rachael Drummond of Chana died last week at age 78. Born February 12 1835 in Vigo County Indiana she moved to Lafayette Township Illinois in 1847 with her parents. Survived by one son John and four grandchildren the widow of Levi Drummond, services at Washington Grove Christian Church conducted by Rev. George Brown. Funeral held Friday at 2 PM. Interment Washington Grove Cemetery.
