Auditors on the Chicago and Northwestern will be dropped from November 1. The rail line will replace the outside White Auditing firm with about a dozen internal inspectors to check conductors' accounts. Management cites better camaraderie with trainmen and substantial cost savings as key reasons for the change. The new auditors will report to the general superintendent and continue auditing conductors’ accounts.
The ladies of the Queen Esther circle and the Woman's Home Missionary society of the Methodist Episcopal church announce their annual Hallowe'en supper. It will be held in the church basement on Saturday evening November 1. Supper served from five o'clock until finished. Also notes single admission tickets for Alton Packard tonight at 35 cents.
Orville Hegerty, about 45, a farm hand at Charles Warrenfeltz's Bradford township farm, was found dead in his bed Tuesday morning after arriving to work October 18. Coroner ruled death from an organic heart growth after inquest. a large Bradford jury, led by Reinhart Aschenbrenner, heard no struggle or foul play. Coroner sought relatives. address leads linked to Centralia and Way City, with the body awaiting disposition.
A steam vulcanizer at a garage exploded Friday at 5 10 pm, blowing out three windows and causing about 12 dollars of damage. No one was injured though Everett Newcomer, working nearby, had ringing ears. The unit ran to 150 pounds pressure with no safety valve, though its normal working pressure was sixty pounds.
A war bulletin reports the supposed impregnable Z-Ray barrier around the United Republica breached by European aerodrome fleets. It notes foreign powers solving isolation and calls for Napoleon Edison who alone can restore the Z-Ray wall, warning that global peace depends on his return.
Word reached here of the death of James S Powers at Clovis New Mexico on Saturday October 18. He married Miss Bertha Smith formerly of Ashton in January 1911. Powers was a clerk in the Oklahoma County court and went to New Mexico last August on a stretcher seeking health. Death followed consumption. The body was sent to Greensburg Indiana for funeral services and burial.
A sale of entertainment course season tickets awarded prizes to top sellers. Miss Zana Cheadle won first prize a $5 gold piece for $54.50 in tickets sold. Guy Shippee and Ruth Hurd earned second and third prizes of $2.50 gold pieces for $49.50 and $29.00 in tickets. Many others sold tickets and received a free adult ticket for every $15 sold. The annual sale reached usual size.
In Ashton and Freeport the trial of Dr Arnold ended with a not guilty verdict on charges of sending improper letters by mail. A confessor who admitted writing the letters exonerated him, and the jury followed the court instruction to acquit.
Alton Packard world famous cartoonist opens the MWA Entertainment Course with Vanity Fair. He returns after pleasing audiences years ago as the opera house is expected to be packed. Tickets available at Gazette Book Store. Single admissions also sold. Course includes five numbers with similar talent to big city shows. Adult tickets 1.50, school tickets 1.00.

Public auction of household effects at the late Peter Eisenberg residence Saturday at two in the afternoon. Executor Joan G. Eisenberg announces sale as part of estate settlement. Real estate transfers list Potter to Harriet Allstedt and Griffith to Dr. Gould with specified blocks and considerations. Weekend guests included George Cleaver, Ian Dakota, and Mrs. J. D. Missman staying with local residents.
About 200 members and friends welcomed Rev. A. E. Ulrich and family in the church parlors last Friday evening. The event featured an informal program of solos and piano pieces, addresses of welcome from church members and the United Evangelical church, and a brief inaugural outline of plans for the year. Refreshments of brick ice cream, wafers and mints followed as the congregation sang Blest Be the Tie That Binds.
John M. Killmer bought the Willbourne E Paddock residence tract of five city lots for 7715 dollars at public sale. Bids ranged from 1210 to 4615 with competing offers from W C Arnould Mrs Andrew Kaecker and Lewis Wood. Killmer plans a fine new bungalow next year and possession is due April 1 1914. The Paddock home, built 1866 by Riley Paddock, is among the citys oldest.
