City council orders out slot machines and candy boards
At a November meeting the council unanimously ousted slot machines and candy boards from the city citing parent complaints and a February 1900 gaming ordinance. Cigar machines were spared. Drainage work in the southeast and sidewalk plans near the depot also drew debate. Mayor Farrer awaits a material decision on sidewalk construction as votes tied. Monthly bills for labor were approved.

Two Wrecks in Local Yards Reported This Week
The Clinton steam wrecker was called to clear two wrecks in the local yards over the past week. On Thursday a north house track derailment spilled four coal cars at Lesslie's coal sheds requiring a new track. Saturday evening eight cars derailed near the pumping station after a freight moved then the track was rebuilt by Monday.
