Lena W. Stannard of Los Angeles elected Grand Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star of California at the San Francisco Grand Chapter. She has long served Long Beach and will oversee nearly 400 chapters with authority over subordinates and district deputies. Stannard, born in Ashton Illinois, resides at 478 East Forty-ninth Street and is an anti suffragist. Los Angeles delegates push to host next year’s state meeting.

Church Organized For Year Pastors Re-elected Leaders
At the Methodist Episcopal church annual official board meeting, officers were re elected William Lesslie as clerk and James Batchelor as treasurer for another term. The pledge system for funds was continued. Applause and thanks were given to C. W. Jonker and Nellie Zeller for choir work. Three ushers Glenn Rosecrans E J Randall and M M Evens were chosen again. Nearly 200 attended a reception for Rev Alfred B Simester and family with a music program and welcome address by A W Rosecrans. Refreshments and flowers followed, as guests greeted the pastor.

Skylight Removed at Masonic Block by Dixon Contractor
Dixon contractor Mark D. Smith, builder of several city business blocks, visited yesterday to remove a second floor skylight and install a substantial window, signaling the likelihood the room will no longer house a photographic studio. Glenn Rosecrans and Ralph Charters, visiting Oregon on Thursday, met with Dr. Harry Egin Webster in his cell with the deputy sheriff’s permission. Webster, a self confessed wife murderer, is seldom allowed to converse, but visitors may peek through a small hole on Wednesdays and Fridays. The party included Misses Lucy Hart and Helen Army. John Morrissey of Peoria renewed his Gazette subscription for a couple years, reporting his family’s health is excellent and that they like Peoria very much.
