A group of vandals raided Opooks Tuesday evening destroying clutter and vehicles from eight to midnight. The public school building suffered damage with plaster filled door keyholes while out-buildings were overturned. A hen hid in a desk until noon. Local owners demand repairs to curb future mischief.

Center of Population Moves West in Indiana State
The center of population for the United States is announced as located in western Bloomington Indiana within Monroe County. It shifts eight miles further west than the July 17 figure and places it five and a quarter miles south of Unionville. Ten years earlier it stood southeast of Columbus Indiana. Lowden Withdraws Lorimer Proxy for National Committeeman Post
Former Congressman Frank O Lowden has withdrawn the proxy he gave Senator Lorimer to represent him as a national committeeman from Illinois. Lowden notified the national committee and the president two years ago. He plans to inform both now and attend the Washington meeting in December. Lorimer will likely object to the withdrawal. Lowden’s health had been poor when the proxy was given and has improved, leading him to prefer personal participation.

Destructive Farm Fire Destroys Viola Township Farm
A major fire at Charles Krahnbuhl’s Viola township farm, two miles east and two south of Reynolds Evangelical Church, destroyed the barn and most farm assets. Four horses, two hogs, harness, implements, 1200 bushels of corn, and 2500 bushels of oats burned. Insurance reported at 4500. total loss estimated over 8500 with owner to bear about 2500.

Ira Mighell Receives Fourteen Year Murder Sentence
Jurors found Ira Paddy Mighell guilty of murdering Emory Kincaid on a Dixon bridge last June. The trial lasted three days with five ballots. sentencing ranged from 14 to 99 years before the $14 year term was set. The defense may seek a new trial then an appeal to the supreme court.
