The Liberty Loan drive faces a last rush as Ashton township shows no subscriptions yet. Camp Grant soldiers and community residents are urged to support the national bond issue, with ten points praising security, income, marketability, tax exemption, and potential appreciation as reasons to invest.
The Food Administration and the U S Department of Agriculture deny plans to seize or take canned goods from families. They urge households to can fruits and vegetables to ensure cheap plentiful supply. A Lee County report about a seizure rumor is noted as false. Mr and Mrs Oliver Eisenberg and their baby visited relatives near Rochelle on Sunday.

The English classes begin a picture study with mounted and bound pictures to accompany compositions. A Freshmen Sophomore reception was well enjoyed, with committees performing well. Marie Kaecker is the new assistant librarian. Second grade pupils are learning to knit. NI Teacher's Association meets in Rockford on November 1 and 2. Henry B. Vanderslice born January 3 1848 in Buckhorn Pennsylvania. Married Anna S. Leidy March 24 1870 in Franklin Grove Illinois. Survived by wife four children K B Edwards Nona and D L four sisters two brothers and five grandchildren. Died October 16 after five days bed rest from pellagra buried in Fairhope cemetery.
J M Bargeson offers a carload of mixed hay on track at thirty dollars per ton. Albert Dan Smith, from Ashton, a relative of Conrad and Martin Smith, was slated to depart Rockford with troops bound for Texas. Mrs R W Clark and child from Kimball Indiana visited Nachusa relatives over the weekend.
Clifford Knapp and Albert Klein sign up for Ford agency and plan a new service station with a brick front, concrete block walls, a circular roof, brick sales room windows for three cars, a ladies rest room, and steam heated work area. The site near the Knapp livery includes a stone barn repurposed for pump and windmill business and Klein plumbing and heating, with Franklin Grove area within reach.

The Lee County Sunday School Executive Committee met October 13 at the Y M C A to review progress and plan a Go to Sunday School Day. Fifty percent attendance and charity offerings highlighted the event as Dixon led in growth and East Grove in per person giving.

The funeral for Sarah Ann Worthington Earl, longtime Methodist member, was conducted Saturday at the Methodist Episcopal church by Rev. Fred A. Graham. Born July 4 1886 near Columbus Ohio she died October 15 1917 in Cucamonga California at age 81 3 11. She leaves two brothers three sisters one step daughter and one grand child.
