Born in Lee county, he served in the Illinois National Guard, led Company F during labor unrest and the Spanish American War, and became a respected Major. He has taught school, led political organizations since age 21, and runs a stock raising business with five children. He is described as a thorough canvasser with strong Republican ties and no political strings.

Among the sick are Mable Gross with pneumonia now improving, Mary Griffith with pneumonia under care, Lena Crisnhart with typhoid fever recovering, Adrian Knapp with acute pneumonia still at risk, Mrs Richardson improving after two weeks ill, and James Richson slowly regaining strength and out for a drive Tuesday.

Coal Vein Found Near Rockvale Township Promising Ore

Oregon Reporter notes a two foot coal vein discovered in Rockvale township near Rock River. If confirmed, Ogle county could supply its own coal and possibly market surplus. Samples shown at Slifer & Miller in Mt. Morris suggest good quality and potential profitable mining, though exact location kept secret. The find could benefit owner and community if extensive enough.

Young Man in the Toils in Belvidere Chase

A young man, A L Dunderburg, who delivered government maps here weeks ago, left town owing 28.35 at New Commercial hotel and 20 for livery. A state warrant led Sheriff Charles Whenke to Belvidere where Dunderburg was under surveillance. He promised to return by November 26 to settle debts, but has not appeared. When returned to Ashton, a hearing will be set.

Trein and Wood Visit Chicago Yesterday

Wm. E. Trein and Fred Wood were visitors in Chicago yesterday. They were seen touring downtown and meeting local contacts during their stay.
