Ashton Gets New Currency From Federal Reserve Notes
Ashton becomes an early recipient of new Federal Reserve Bank notes in five denominations five ten twenty fifty and hundred. The five dollar bill shows Abraham Lincoln on the obverse with the US seal and Chicago district reserve seal and a detailed reverse engraving. The notes are legal tender for all government imposts duties levies and public debt and will gradually replace ordinary national bank notes over twenty years.

Odd Fellows Entertain One Hundred Friends and Members
The Odd Fellow fraternity hosted a Monday evening social for about one hundred members and guests to enjoy cards games talks and music by the Masonic orchestra. Noble Grand Erven J. Yenerich presided delivering a talk on Odd Fellowship. Luncheon followed with ham and cheese sandwiches pies coffee and cigars, and guests expressed they had a very pleasant time.

Dixon Resident 24 Years Dies of Cancer at Dixon
Ira Coakley an early Lafayette township settler died Monday in Chana from stomach cancer. Born August 12, 1830 in Steuben County New York he moved west with his parents and later lived on the farm now owned by Arthur C. Dugdale. He married Jane Demery on New Year’s Day about 160 years ago and had two sons, Andrew of Chana and George F. of Dixon. Survived by a sister Helen Dugdale and four grandchildren. Funeral at Andrew Coakley’s home in Chana, burial beside his wife four years past.
