Ashton Man to Head Mt. Morris College

Prof. John S. Noffsinger, current Ashton Public Schools superintendent, accepted the presidency at Mt. Morris College. Retiring president Prof. Miller has led the college for eleven years. Noffsinger, a Dayton native and Mt. Morris alum, is pursuing a master's degree at the University of Chicago. He has grown the local school to a state credited list.

Former Principals Named Fulton School Superintendent

Prof H V Baldwin of Dixon and former Ashton Public School principal has been chosen as Fulton superintendent to succeed Prof H B Price who becomes Whiteside county Schools head. Fulton opens a new $40 000 high school with modern facilities and grounds. Price is celebrated with a farewell reception and a loving cup token of appreciation for his service.

Thanksgiving party and school notices from the high school

The high school held a Thanksgiving party in the auditorium with an impromptu program and games as many boys were absent. Sophomores plan to enjoy Travels with a Donkey, while teachers and students discuss dissection jokes and a forthcoming program. A moving sale notice and local visits are also noted, including Mrs. Verna Burnham visiting Franklin Grove.

Sister of Ashton Lady Buried Here

Nancy Clifford sister of Mrs. S. E. Cates and the late Mrs. H. E. Chadwick died Wednesday at her daughter’s home in Trent Iowa after heart trouble and dropsy. Born April 20 1888 in Bradford PA she lived in Grundy County Iowa and Morri son before settling near Ashton. Survived by six of nine children and twenty two grandchildren. Funeral held at the Franklin home in Ashton conducted by Rev. E. G. Copeland.

War tax stamps arrive as Ashton notes delay in business

Sev eral local residents visit family in Dysart and Winona as the community records the new war tax stamp act. Postmaster Roesler becomes the local sale agent while banks and the depot adjust to stamps on notes deeds receipts and telegrams. Church events at United Evangelical Bradford and Ashton are announced with revival plans and a December 5 business session moved to Ashton.

Illinois Day program and local society notes

A free will offering marked Illinois Day activities. Mrs. A T Reed celebrated her 70th birthday with a party at M J Paddock’s home attended by the Hunt Richardson Schade and Chadwick families. The Philatheas showcased dolls and crafts for a Tennessee mission school. Postmaster J A Roesler and son Erwin attended a Chicago stockholders meeting and banquet.

The well reaches 150 feet with rock at 135 and more gravel. boiler bought in Chicago and shipped on the Sterling. Material for the tank and tower due around January 15 from Pittsburgh. concrete foundations to be laid soon.
